Healthy Schools

At Etone College, we are committed to educating our pupils on how to be both physically and mentally healthy.  For more information about how we support positive mental health and wellbeing for all members of our school community, please check out our pupil wellbeing page

Drink to Think and Healthy Eating

Pupils are educated about healthy eating through assemblies, Learning for Life lessons and also through other subjects such as Science and Food. For details of our Learning for Life curriculum and Theme of the Week, please take a look at Personal Development Page

Drink to Think

We encourage pupils to eat healthily at all times and educate them about the benefits of a healthy diet. This includes encouraging pupils to stay well hydrated at all times by carrying a water bottle that they can fill up at our water fountains throughout the day and by displaying our Drink to Think posters in all classrooms.

Healthy Lunchboxes

We also provide healthy school food in our Cafe at breakfast, break and lunchtimes (including special themed menus) and encourage pupils to bring healthy lunches through our Healthy Lunchbox posters also on display in our classrooms.

Healthy Habits

We are looking forward to rewarding pupils for healthy habits in our Etone Wellbeing Week early on in 2026. In addition to having assemblies that focus on healthy lifestyles, we are also delighted to invite external speakers into school during Year 7 who provide workshops for each tutor group on healthy eating and the link to wellbeing. Pupils are also encouraged to cook healthy meals through Food lessons and are able to join Food Club which runs as an extracurricular activity each week.  On special occasions, pupils also help us to cater for events - for example our TIGERS cooking Christmas lunch for staff or pupils baking for charity events such as Children in Need.

Attitudes to and Participation in Sport

At Etone College, we are very proud of the opportunities that pupils have to take part in Sport both within and beyond the curriculum. We offer a wide range of sports to cater for all talents and interests both within lessons and as part of our extracurricular provision which includes residential opportunities for netball, rugby, outdoor adventure and skiing.

Active Participation & Achievement

We are also proud of our Duke of Edinburgh provision and the fact that our staff act as role models through their engagement with Trust charity events such as the 3 Peaks Challenge.  All of our pupils' talents are celebrated and pupils represent the school in fixtures in a wide range of sports. They also have opportunities to take part in cross Trust events such as the Matrix Sports Day and our own sports day at Pingles along with House Sports events every half term.

Football Pathways & Wellbeing

In addition, we are also very proud of our Football Academy who work with West Bromwich Albion to offer sports qualifications and progression pathways in both male and female football including opportunities for qualifications in coaching and refereeing.

A critical part of mental wellbeing is also being active, and this is one of our five top tips that we share with pupils. Pupils take part in events such as break time Just Dance and Walk a Mile from time to learn in a practical way how physical activity can bring benefits for our mental wellbeing.

Active Travel

We actively encourage pupils to walk or cycle to school where this is practical and safe for pupils. As part of this we promote safety at all times through our Road Safety awareness assemblies and specific Learning for Life lessons that focus on both road and rail safety.  We offer Year 7 Bikeability to support their safety in cycling to school and also recognise Walk to School week in May where pupils will be able to gain rewards for demonstrating positive attitudes to physical wellbeing through sport, healthy eating, hydration or travel to school.  We are also delighted to welcome external speakers into school including engagement with Road Safety providers and Rail Safety initiatives.
