This September, our school is taking part in Recycling Week 2026, giving students and staff the opportunity to think about how everyday choices can help reduce waste and protect our environment. We have been looking at the importance of recycling in our Geography lessons.

Throughout the week, students will be encouraged to make recycling objects like paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and other suitable materials a priority. Classes will also take part in activities in lesson to identify which products, that we use daily, can be reused or recycled.

One of the key messages of Recycling Week is that small actions can make a big difference. Putting a bottle in the correct recycling bin, using both sides of a sheet of paper or choosing a reusable water bottle may seem like tiny changes, but when hundreds of people do them every day, the impact can add up. Overall improving the environment that we live in.

Recycling also encourages us to think beyond simply throwing things away. Before putting something in the bin, we can ask ourselves: Can this be reused? Can it be repaired? Can it be recycled? Therefore, pupils have the opportunity to be involved in a competition to design a product made of recycled materials. The winners will receive a prize for their outstanding efforts and creativity.

Recycling Week isn't just about one week of action. It is a chance to develop habits that can continue throughout the school year.
