Road Safety

Our Year 9 students took part in an engaging and thought-provoking theatre experience titled The Riot Act, a live performance designed to spark important conversations about road safety. Blending drama, humour, and real-life scenarios, the production delivered a clear message: the choices we make on and around the road—whether as drivers, passengers, cyclists, or pedestrians—have real consequences.

The performance followed a group of teenagers navigating everyday situations that young people often underestimate: crossing the road while distracted, travelling in cars without seatbelts, peer pressure to take unnecessary risks, and the dangers of using mobile phones near traffic. Through relatable characters and a gripping storyline, students saw how a single moment of carelessness can lead to life-changing outcomes.

What made the show especially powerful was its mix of entertainment and education. Students laughed, reacted, and leaned in—but also reflected deeply on their own habits. After the performance, actors led an interactive discussion where Year 9s shared thoughts, asked questions, and explored how they can make safer choices in everyday life.

Teachers noted how the session reinforced the road-safety messages already taught in school, but in a way that felt fresh, relevant, and emotionally impactful.
