Each year we show our support for National Anti-Bullying week with our Theme of the Week and assemblies reflecting on the need for our Etone Values. As a community we are especially proud of how supportive our pupils and staff are of each other. Across all of our initiatives our six values are a large part of the operation.

On Monday 20^th November we are once again hosting our Odd Socks event to stand up against all bullies and show support across the country. We would like to invite you to wear odd socks on this day and come to the hall after school for our traditional Etone Photo Opportunity.

As part of our support and awareness for World Mental Health Day students took part in activities all week during break time.  The students put all Etone’s Top Tips into action and fun was had by all. Etone College’s 5 Top Tips are – Connect, Take Notice, Get Active, Keep Learning and Give. 

Students had the opportunity to learn something new, take notice and connect with others while working together making Twiddlemitts and colouring positive affirmation postcards. Our Wellbeing Ambassadors will be giving these to the local hospital and local care home. 

Throughout the week Miss West and Miss Goode asked students to give positive affirmations messages for The Success Centre’s Positivitree. The tree is part of many resources that can be found in the Success Centre to help students take notice of their own mental health. 

Friday breaktime, students also attended Mrs Price’s weekly just dance where they got active dancing during breaktime. Just dance is a popular breaktime activity and always well attended. 

It has been a fabulous week raising awareness for World Mental Health Day and we would like to thank all the students that gave their breaktimes to support the activities.

Introducing our brand new House Mascots! Over the short break our media team have been busy developing our updated House Logos. We have to say we are very impressed by the results. It doesn’t matter if you’re a fire breather like Dragon, fire bird like Phoenix, galloping along like Centaur or soaring like Griffin, whichever house you belong to it make it hard not to have pride with logos such as these.

Let the games begin…

On Friday 10th November we will be paying our respects as a school as part of the Remembrance Day tributes.

On this day the school will observe a minutes silence as our Cadets attend the Matrix Trusts’ annual parade at Turves Green Boys School.

In the run up poppies will be sold in registration and break time to raise money for the British Legion.

Then at lunchtime our pupils will get the chance to taste our special ration-inspired menu. Giving them the opportunity to see the kinds of food our troops would eat during the war.

As you will be aware from our earlier articles the last week of term was about showing Active Citizenship.

Our Etone Cadets troop have been doing just this over the weekend by being supportive and caring, raising funds by selling poppies in the local area.

Each year our cadets give up their own time to make a difference and raise money for the British Legion, to remember those who have fought in conflicts to protect our Fundamental British Values. The charity does tremendous work to support soldiers and their families in many ways.

Over the weekend our cadets were out in Nuneaton town centre and The Ropewalk selling poppies and collecting donations.

Whilst we have yet to get a total, we do want to thank the local area for all of their support. A big Etone well done to all of our Cadets as well!

Over the final week of term our pupils have been considering the value they hold in their education as our first Attendance competition of the year began. This time our ‘Attendance Matters’ campaign looked to highlight the reasons it is important to attend schools. As part of this pupils entered into the spirit as the competed against their Key Stage Form Groups to achieve attendance glory.

Over the course of this week our pupils have been busy considering how they show active citizenship as part of our Theme of the Week assemblies. Hand in hand with our Attendance Matters week the pupils have been focused on what they do to impact and support the community around them.

From our Year 11 Prefects to our Year 7 Journalists our student leadership roles enable pupils to take an active part in the development of Etone College, helping to support our local and wider community.

As part of the assembly pupils had the chance to thank our Community Champions who were very well received as they described their role in supporting Etone with our community mission.

The assembly was also an opportunity to highlight some of the events that will be taking place on Friday 17^th November in support of Children in Need. During the day pupils are invited to wear non-school uniform and donate a suggestion of £1, provided they come fully equipped for a normal school day (including their PE kit).

Well done to all of our Etone pupils for showing their active citizenship and ‘Being Supportive’ as they showcase our Etone Values.

Derby 0 – 12 Etone WBA

After a logistical nightmare meant a frustrating start to the day for the Etone lads as factors out of control made the game hard for the boys to play in the first hand. However on the pitch the boys showed their class and grace as they have done all season. Etone WBA controlled the game and didn’t let derby have the ball at all. A goal from Atkins 4 minutes into the game turned the game into Etones favour. The floodgates then opened with Brown and Grimes adding to the tally making it 5-0 going into half time. 

The second half started abit rocky for Etone WBA as they allowed a few tempting shots on goal but they were easily denied by Bheda, after regaining their footing Etone WBA then controlled the rest of the game and came out 12-0 winners. A special mention to Atkins who scored 8. 

A great start to the season for Etone WBA winning 5 from 5 to maintain their 100% record going into the half term break

We are very proud of our Year 11 and 13 pupils for showing their resilience and self belief as they have begun their mock exams.

This series of exams will be a very important part of the preparation for the summer series. Across this term pupils have been provided with targeted support sessions in their subjects, attended revision seminars and accessed a wide variety of materials from us in helping to support their revision.

Our pupils have shown just how much effort they are putting into their preparations with some pupils diligently using their lunch time for revision. Ensuring every moment counts.

Whilst it is important that pupils are putting in the time to revise, we have also underlined the importance of keeping positive mental health. From our Year 11/13 drop in sessions to our ‘Coping with Exam Stress’ assembly, the message to pupils has been clear from the start.
