Soccer Assist

Etone College Sixth Form welcomed Soccer Assist who presented to our football academy students regarding the opportunities to play and study in the United States!

As part of the comprehensive careers provision at Etone College the opportunities provided by our range of speakers discuss the scholarship pathways and how they can lead to many outcomes, not just earning a degree, but also graduate employment, further education or the MLS/NWSL draft. It’s not just the opportunities in football that expand with a scholarship but those for life too.

Thank you again Alex for a in depth and informative presentation!

Year 12 Fun Fair

On Thursday 10th July our pupils in main school and Sixth Form students joined together to raise funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital by hosting our first ever Summer Fair. Designed by our amazing Sixth Form team and the Community Champions within, they had done an amazing job of creating an amazing atmosphere. Giving the whole school the opportunity to have a go at some traditional favourties and watch our Staff vs Student football match.

Across the event pupils took part in stalls including;

Across all of the stalls pupils were keen to get involved, win prizes and give money to a worthy cause. For some the biggest draw had to be the ‘Soak the Teacher’ with all our staff taking part being good sports. Whilst we can’t really work out who got the most soaked, it was great to see members of our leadership team taking part and giving pupils the chance to get their own back and settle scores across the year.

Whilst we do not yet have a totally figure for the event, we are sure to have raised hundreds towards the charity and therefore would like to thank everybody who support the event.

Sixth Form Taster

Today, all Year 12 students attneded an informative and engaging session led by Mr. Ehsan from Student Finance England. The talk provided students with up-to-date, accurate information about the financial support available for university, including tuition fee and maintenance loans, accommodation costs, and other funding options.

Mr. Ehsan helped demystify the financial aspects of higher education, reassuring students and parents that university can be an affordable and achievable goal. As the session was delivered directly by a representative from Student Finance England, students in the 2025–2026 cohort received the most current guidance to help them make informed decisions about their next steps.

Sixth Form Taster Day

What a fantastic day our Sixth Form incomers had as they attended the biggest taster day yet. With more courses on offer than ever before and attendance at its highest, we are proud to have welcomed our new cohort of Year 12’s.

Being welcomed by Miss Sandilands and the wider Sixth Form team, our new students enjoyed pain au chocolat’ and drinks as they listened intently to what their time at Etone College would offer them.

Across the day students had the chance to experience the delights of Business; considering how branding impacts our choices and attitudes to price, Criminology; considering the impact and effects of crime and of course tasters in our Football Academy programme - Along with the whole host of subjects.

The day was a complete success and it was lovely for students to see Sixth Form in full swing - We can wait to see you next year!

Year 13’s – Time to Say Goodbye

It was time to say goodbye to the Year 13 Class of 25 on Wednesday. A bitter sweet celebration as Year 13 pupils joined together to say a thank you to their members of staff and goodbye to the Sixth Form which has been their home for education for the last two years. For some it was the end of a longer ear as we say goodbye to some pupils/ students who have journeyed from Year 7 to Year 13 in our very buildings. When we look back in those seven years there have been some truly triumphant times, but also more road blocks than we would care to revisit including of course the pandemic. We look forward to welcoming them back for results day but for now: Congratulations Year 13!

Etone Football Education Academy League Retain Championship

As you are aware at Etone we pride ourselves in supporting each pupil to achieve their best. In 2020 we introduced our Football Education Academy as an additional programme to complement our Sixth Form offer.

We are therefore pleased to announce one of our academy teams clinched the league title for the second season running with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Derby County, not only does this mean the team lift the trophy for a second time, but it also means another trip to Wembley Stadium during the Championship play-offs to receive the trophy in front of 80,000 people.

With one point needed to secure victory, it was all to play for and our team delivered with fantastic form. From the first whilst the team took control of the game goals from Grant, Marston, Griffin and Hollis secured the points and ultimately the title. Leading to our consecutive win and putting the Academy firmly in place.

MP and Mayor visit Etone!

On Thursday 10th April Etone College had the delight of welcoming Nuneaton MP Jodie Gosling and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Bhim Saru to the school in order to celebrate our recent win as Community School of the Year.

As you will be aware the award win is historic for many reasons including our first national award in recent memory. The award presented to the school in London is a great reward for our pupils for all of their hard work.

Over the course of the visit pupils had the opportunity to enjoy a sit down discussion with Jodie and Bhim as they shared the tremendous work they do in building links between the school and the community, discussed how the Community Champions could further support Nuneaton and brainstormed future plans for the town and the school.

Upon discussing the wider community impact of Etone and the importance of our win on our community Jodie had some kind words of inspiration for the pupils to share stating “It is a great opportunity to come in and congratulate your win. This is big news not just for you but for the community as it is a key focus of our goals to regenerate and celebrate the area. The pride you have in your community and school is truly amazing.”

Our pupils were particularly enthused when discussing plans for a local Youth Council and the opportunities to be involved in the regeneration of the town centre. Mr Saru also shared his journey into politics with the pupils and his pride of being the first Nepalese Councillor, Deputy Mayor and Mayor-elect along with heaping further praise onto our team of young leaders agreeing “it is really important that we share this, the community is such a special place. Having settled here it is what brings us together and helps us to understand each other. A big well done to Etone College.

As the session drew to a close there was an opportunity to tour our visitors around the new Tanner building and share some of the sustainable features whilst discussing some of the ideas the Community Champions would like to implement in the town.

Finally, we were honoured to be invited to attend the Civic rooms at the Town Hall for a meet and greet with the Mayor-elect in the following term.

Business and Economics Grade Booster Workshops

On Friday our Sixth Form Business and Economics pupils travelled to Star City Birmingham, where they took part in Tutor 2 U’s Grade Booster workshops. These are hgigh quality sessions delivered by exam specification experts aimed at giving pupils some key reminders and tips to securing the highest results in their exams.

As the day began the pupils attended their first session for their respective courses. These events are always well planned and involve high levels of engagement from pupils. Split into the key specification areas they provide a clear path to success for any pupil.

Following the successful sessions pupils had the chance to reflect on the themes of the day, before coming back with revision resources and materials along with online log ins to continue their journey.

This is always a well attended and meaningful trip, which in turn has a fantastic impact on our pupils prospects.
